All done in Vegas

We will be leaving here in an hour to catch our 8:20 flight. Even though the season did not go as I had envisioned, based on the circumstances I thought we did well, and each player improved. This group of boys was busy...... too busy we only really had al our team together for 25% of practices and less than half of our games. Between prom, summer league, other camps, school testing, graduation, vacations, etc we only had a handful of practices as a whole team together. Best of luck to all of you let me know if I can help out with any recruiting or if you need me to make any calls for in your behalf. Best of luck to all thanks Steve Garrity

Vic 5-9 FG's 18 pts 7-10 FT's
Christian 3 pts. 6 boards and 5 blocks
Noah 3-8 7 pts 2 blocks 5 rbounds
Mike 8 points, 2-7 FT's 4 rebounds
Drake 4 ponts 6 rebounds 2 assists
Tyler 3 rebounds 2 blocks 2 assists
Marc played limited minutes had 2 big threes 7 points
Zach 13 boards 6 points

We had a nice time at the Blue Man show. The whole team went along with all the parents and family. It was a great show but failed to distrct me fom the let down of the loss. Iwas really happy overall how we competed if we just make 1/2 our FT's we win the game. don't know hown many front end of 1-1's we missed. The whole summer AAU season will be playing over in my head for some time. Greatful to the boys forthe time that they put in and effort they gave. All quality kids. As I was on the strip tonight waiting as the boys went off to eat. I saw several groups of young men from other basketball teams using foul language and acting like idiots. Was glad that our boys don't act like that.

A great start to game #4 actually a pretty dominate performance. Defensively we were very solid, offensively efficient and got a double digit lead early and would have been to 20 had we hit our FT's. Mid way through the first half Hayes went out with a severely rolled ankle. Immediatley swelled and left the game for good when it happened. We battled well and maintained a nice lead at the half. Second half we slipped a bit and the FT's we missed in the first half..........well in the second half those misses ....continued to be misses. Back and forth Vic had to play point the whole time in fact don't think he went out of the game. Our bigs wee better than their bigs. drake, tyler, zach, christian and noah combied for 33 rebounds and 9 blocks. As we tired we turned the ball over, and our lead started to shrink to single digits and then tied for the first time with around a minute or so. It was tied with 14 seconds to got it down to 5 seconds where Vic was absolutely mugged no call and they laid it up at the buzzzer. lost by 2 points. I was pretty pleased with the effort and with Hayes out of the game you could see how vulnerable we were on defense and less efficient offensively. Back to Free throws. How bad was it??? We shot 29 and made 12 yep 12-27. No matter what you can't point any fingers anywhere on 12 of 27 free throw shooting.

More later gotta go check bck tomorrow morning

Pre game #4 5:08

We leave here in 10 minutes or so. I get so focused on basketball. I could do this everyday over and over. I am not always sure my message comes across to the boys. Basketball truly is a metaphor for life. We all need to be teachable and coachable we need to follow a game plan to exactness. We need to re focus try again and make a better effort. Our kids have so much nd where much is given much is required. They don't get much sympathy from me. It is so easy to get off track in both life and basketball without even really knowing. Often it is just too late to avoid the pain and consequences that come with poor choices. In basketball you get yanked out and you sit on he bench. In life it is opportunity wasted. Sometimes just one mistake makes the difference in winning or losing just like in life. The small things tend to become big if they are not corrected. We play a 3 seed from another pool however because there was a forfeit 3 teams from that pool tied at 2-1 and one team 0-3. Which means because of the forfeit we may actually be playing the team that would have ended oup #1 in their pool but because they forfeited the game they may be the #3 seed instead of #1. It is a point system on who beats who and by how much that determines tie breakers. At 10pm tonight we are all going to see The Blue Man Group at the Venetion. However if we lose I won't be much in the blue Man group mood and will go back to my room and mope. The boys are conducting themselves great they are working hard and staying out of trouble, having fun. I just know I can get more out of each of them.

Getting right to it we played a very very small team that was not very good. We won by round 30 did not think we played all that well but playing a much smaller less talented team is hard to do. Everyone played quality minutes and everyone contributed alot. We play in the Gold Bracket tomorrw at 6:20pm. We play a team that took 3rd place in their pool. We will play til we lose. WIll update more tomorrow. I am taking the boys to the strip to eat.
Drake 12 points 5 of 8 shooting 2-2 FT's 5 rebounds 2 steals 1 assist 1 block
Mike 12 points 4-5 shooting 4-4 Ft's 5 rebounds 4 assits and steal.
Marc 4 boards 1 3 pointer
Hayes 8 points 3-6 2-2 from 3 4 boards2 steals 3 assists.
Vic 5 boards 6 points 3-9 shooting
Zach 5 points 5 boards 1 steal
Christian 6 boards 2 steal 3 blocks
Tyler 5 boards 3 assists 3 blocks 1 steal 2 points
Noah 5 points 2 big dunks 2 -8 shing 4 blocks 3 boards 3 assist
9 players scored 9 players had 3 boards or more. We live to play another day!!

Last night we had a great meal thanks to the Sonnemakers. It was 'Taco Thursday' and all the boys got their fill. Thanks so much to the Sonnemakers. They help me stay on schedule and Scott has beome a trusted sounding board and therapist to me so I don'r pull all my hair out. We had a nice breakfast at my place of pancakes, juice, milk, egss sausage, bacon and fruit. All the boys got up OK........... To The GAme
Crazy Game #2 without added drama we won by 6-8. It was a fairly close game most of the way we pulled away with a 14 point lead with 10 minutes in the second half but they lingered around. They hit some shots that they normally don't and we missed a few that we normally do. They spread us out and used their quickness to go around us and got to the basket. Our bigs got lazy and stopped moving their feet and were beat on the perimeter with the drive. I felt the ball bounced their way a bit more and they got some crucial calls during the game, they made some plays we we didn't, but we held on. Hayes made 2 big baskets and a FT in the last minute or two that sealed the win for us. We advance with a win and that is the important thing. We have not hit our stride. We had strange matchups as we were much much taller even 4-6 inches per man sometimes, however their quickness hurt us. We did terrible in exploiting their size disadvantage. They played a zone against us and packed it in, Denied Vic the ball most the time and between some simple missed shots, some not so great shots and TO's it worked out well for them. Bottom line we pulled it off. The guys are resting today some time at the pool and we leave at 6:30 for our 7:40 game. More later..................
Game #2 Stats
Hayes 9-19(but only 2-10 from 3) -3 FTS 23pts 3 assists
Vic 5-9, 3-5 from 3 13 pts. 3 steals 3 assists
Mike 7 boards 3 assists 1 steal 3-5, fg's 3-3 Fts 9 points
Noah 3-6 7-9 ft's 13pts and a Monster dunk down the middle of the lane in traffic
Marc had 5 big points for us on -5 shooting and a great block a couple boards
Christian had a couple baskets a couple blocks and a handful of boards
Zach played solid d and reounded well on both ends.

Game 1. Things started out well I thought this moring guys up at 8:30-9:00 then a hearty breakfast eggs sausage bacon toast milk fruit juice cereal......... we started the game out a bit slow Vic hit 2 threes off the bat the other team a local squad that were giving u 2-3 inches per man matched us shot for shot. We gave them some open threes and they took advantage of our too soft defense. Then in our attempt to pad our resume to work at a bakery, we showed of our ability to make some quick and nice "turnovers" and we just could not make a break from them in the 2nd half. 2nd half started out well and soon we had a nice comfortable lead of 10 points. The we strengthened our bakery application with more TO's. Ended up with around 20 for the game and they were just unforced mental errors for the most part. We were up by 1 with 15 seconds to go we fouled them 35 feet from the basket they hit both FT's our ball 7 seconds to go had a time out but did not want to use it and off we went Hayes with time runing down passe to Vic and missed at the buzzer 0-1. CRAP. Really a game that we should have held on to we had 3-4 critical TO's in the last 2-3 minutes missed opportunities and freebies for the other guys. Tomorrow at 9am.
Zach had perhaps his best game of the year 16 + rebounds, 5 of 8 13 points.
Hayes was 7-14 4-4 Ft's 2-4 3's 20 points 5 asists
Vic 4 of 13 struggled from 3 2-11.
Christian was 2-4 34 blocks 8 rebounds
Mike was 4-6
Tyler drake riley and marc did not play many minutes

We simply had way too many TO's in the worst possible times.

flight 626 is a full one. 6 of the 10 players are on this flight. Tyler comes directly from St Louis, Mike, Drake and Marc on later flights. We are on time and should be in to Vegas less than an hour. It is nice to have access to the internet on the flight!! Upon landing I wil runn off and take the shutle to get the rental Van load up and try to work my magic to check in early to the resort. We have 2 2 bedroom sues for the boys with full kitchens so I will make a grocery run to stock up. Today we check in at tournament HQ and we play tomorrow at 11:40 and then Friday at 9am and 7:40 at night. Then we wil be seeded depending on how we do. Our line up is as follows:

Tyler Sonnemaker 6-7 Post
Christian Parrott from the Boise Idaho area is a 6-9 Post
Noah Kone 6-7 Post
Zach Sweeney 6-7 Post
Mike Moyer 6-3 wing
Hayes Garrity6-2 guard
Drake whitehust 6-6 wing
Victor Aguero 6-0 Guard
Riley Wiggins 6-0 Guard
Marc Eppinger 6-6 wing
I hope to report some good news throughout our stay and will have people (I hope) to keep acurate stats that I can post with results. I am glad the Vegas will a bit cooler as the temp has dropped from 110 yesterday to 108 today and by the weekend should be a chili 106. Darn I only brought shorts. I hope Marc brought his sunscreen!! ( an inside joke)

8:00pm Update

Made it to the final 16 of 112 teams, then saw us play the worst game this year. Hayes and Vic normally pretty steady were worse than bad on the offensive end.
here is the ugliness Hayes 3-14, Vic 4-23 Zach 0-2, Mike 1-4, Christian 0-3,
Tyler 1-3, Dimitri 2-7, Drake 2-5. We shot 24%. Amazing. For the most part they were good shots just did not fall, we are coming home tonight.

We played a weak team from Vanouver BC won by 50 pts 89 to 39. Looking at the stats we shared the ball pretty good Dimitri brings much needed toughness and energy he had several inside buckets 12 points 4 assists. Hayes had 6 assists 4 steals 16 pts vic 15 pts 5 assists and 4 boards. mike 2 steals 4 boards 8 points, christian 3 blocks 6 boards 8 pts. Drake 5 boards a steal 3 pts zach 6 pts a steal a block 3 boards and tyler 8 boards 10 points 1 steal. Marc had p pts. We move on to the top platinum bracket and will play the top competition first game at 5:45 tonight. Out of 112 teams we have made it through to the top 16. Hope we can make some noise and will down to the final 8 tonight. Will post again after the game.

We played ICP a team from Portland in game #2. We did not play well. We got out-hustled, out rebounded and I was sad that it was not a very good performance. Mike Moyer played huge for us on both ends, hustle points, hustle plays, plays of toughness. I struggled finding a productive group out there. We struggled because we had some that were not playing 100%. We must take it more personally when we get outworked. It is kinda the mental attitude to play like it is your last game. Bottom line is we are 2 and 0 and it is great to win when you do not play very well. We play at 11:30 am tomorrow and hopefully we will come with more attitude and energy like we have something to prove! Zach hustled like always and played tough for us thoght it was a turing point when he put back a miss from Hayes that seemed to give us a big lift. We fouhgt off a couple of runs they came at us with. Though the game was close we lead most of the way by a bucket or two. Hayes and Vic did ok hit a bunch of key shots for us our bigs in general struggled. I thought Dimiti stepped up in a big way for us with his energy and fight!! He coul have been the difference. The game was close for most of it and then we won by 12 or 14 points.

Nice game 1-0 won by around 40 pooints. The team we played, played hard and though they were overmatched we played hard throughout. Everyone played a lot and played well. It was a good warm up game for us as we haven't played together in a while and we have a couple of new players. Christian Parrott joined us from Idaho. He is a 6-9 post and wing that played amazingly well on both ends of the floor his presence was greatly needed and we are happy to have him with us. Mike Moyer despite rumors of inactivity and less than game shape, played great for us rebounding on both ends and double digit scoring. (His conditioning will be tested as we move forward so I am holding my judgment!!) Luke Mones our 6-6 post from Catlin Gable got a bunch of quality minutes in the second half which was HUGE!!! He scored 2 big baskets and had some nice boards. But what was most important he was able to give some of our bigs some rest so they will be fresh tonight. Zach was great and played some wing for us which is a nice addition to his game he impresses me with his toughness and is becoming more versatile. Hayes and Vic played very solid minutes, each had several
3's and dominated the guard play in a big way the whole game---They lead us in scoring. Dimitri Posey was solid on O and D and had several key baskets, FT's a couple of steals. He is a pitbull and tough and will be a valuable asset if he can continue to give quality minutes on both ends. I am sure he had 10 + points. Marc was able to play a bit on cruise control. Hit some big threes again and just ads another threat from deep that needs to be respected. We did not need to call his number much tonight. Drake though not one of his most productive offense games is always tremendously valuable becasue he is unselfish and his work ethic on defense and on the boards always pays dividends. I thought Tyler played his best game of the year for us. Was effective on d changing shots and rebouded well. The key will be if our bigs can play well when they are also matched up with equal sie and talent. Everyone played productive quality minutes which will help us stay fresh and hopefully will pay dividends later in the tournament. We play ICP a team from Oregon Tonight at 7:30 then our third game of pool play tomorrow at 11:30 am.

Chnage update Happy 4th --Practices

Our games are at 3:45 at BCC then 7:30 at samamish HS, then Saturday at 11:30 at BCC. We will then be seeded in a single elimination tourney. We must win our "pool" to get to the platinum bracket.

We will Practice mon tues and wed at 1 at the Club be on time make to all practices!! We will have Thursday off and will leave to Seattle on Friday around 9am let me know if you need a ride!

Days Inn Seattle-Bellevue - www.daysinn.com
3241 156th Avenue Southeast, Bellevue - (425) 643-6644

Here some some changes: First Practices this week are at Sunset Athletic Club 1pm let me know what may be best we will practice Tuesday at 1pm and will practice each day this week at 1pm unless we need to make a change as required. ( it may be tough with traffic to do it at 9 when I would prefer). Victor amd Mark you guys may want to car pool. I have a camp going on from 10am-1 each day this week.

With us being a bit short handed I have cancelled the tournament here in Portland, with the idea of saving our energy and resources for the Seattle tourney that will have much better exposure and competition. There is a bit of a story behind the decision and several good reasons. I s/w several of the players about it and we are ALL in agreement. The main reason is Portland is 6th-8th of July and Seattle is 9th-11th. I do not feel that we can play 8-10 high intensity games in 4-5 days with the group that we have. There are 2 tourney's here in PDX going on at the same time. The one is a non-NCAA sanctioned event which means D1 coaches can't attend. The other is sanctioned however they are trying to put it together the last 2-3 weeks and I am sure they will not have very many teams 6 or 8 at the 17u level. Questions about it call me.

I need everyone to call me I have some forms I have to fill out that requires birthdays and addresses. 503 875 8281. I look forward to a great Seattle and Las vegas tourney. Please check the blog i will update it with where we are staying in Seattle and when we are leaviing.

Updated 5/27/2010 Vegas

NO PRACTICE TODAY!! For Vegas please book your flights leaving Portland on the 21st and returning on the evening of the 26th of July. Alaska and SW go to Vegas and have the same fare. We are staying at the place below. The Sonnemakers have some time share-type benefits so we are staying at a 5 star resort at a 2 star price thank you to them!!

Here is a link to look at photos of the Grand Desert Property in Las Vegas
http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/LASGD/main.wnt

The address is:
Grand Desert by Wyndham
265 East Harmon Avenue
Las Vegas
Nevada 89169 | United States | 800-989-1848

Phil with NW Hoops IS having his tourney afterall. Though d1 coaches will not be able to attend he will have lots of JC's there as well as NAIA and D2 coaches will keep you posted. I am looking for other opportunities I like it becuase it is right in our back yard and because it is inexpensive.
http:www.northwesthoops.com

Moving forward. We will have a game on Saturday at West Salem at 5pm in Addition to the games at the Hoop at 2 and 3. We will not play over memorial day weekend in Seattle. Our funds are low and I would rather spend those remaining funds for our July tourneys. As soon as the HS summer season starts we will limit our practices. The HS players will be busy with their summer basketball leagues. We will have a couple of practices in June before the rose city showcase that starts on the 11th of June. Please remind me of who is available and who is not. IT IS VERY VERY important that you seniors especially get in shape...real basketball shape to put yourself in the best possible situation to perform at your best!! That means eat right, sleep right, rest right, etc. Give yourself the best possible chance by being in great shape.

July will be a busy month let me know if you will be missing any dates in July. This is the most important time of the summer for all of the players. This is the "live" period where Division 1 coaches can scout and watch the boys play. I have several colleges contact me about our players and others. Most of these coaches are NAIA and JC coaches. They all have $ for partial scholarships. Feel free to talk to me about the process and where I see your son playing at the next level. BASKETBALL MUST BE THE PRIORITY IN JULY OVER ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES, VACATIONS, ETC.

July 6th-8th we will be here in Portland playing and then immediately leave to Bellvue on the 9th-11th for a very nice tourney there. We will leave on the 21st or 22nd to Las Vagas til the 26th.

Practice - S. Meadows, 7:00 Tues, Thurs, Fri. DO NOT MISS PRACTICE! We do have a local tournament this weekend, TBD.

Basketball is funny...game #4 we played against a local team from Yakima that has played together a lot. We struggled but finally pulled away and had a comfortable 20 pt. lead until the last 2 minutes of the game, when we relaxed and they got within 9. Until we won by 15 points. What I am trying to get all the players to learn is regardless of the score or regardless of the talent of the other team, we always, always have to respect our opponent at all times. I am trying to get them to not relax. Most of our mistakes are mental lapses of judgement.

Game #5 - the Championship. I am a little surprised that we made it to the Championship to defend our title from last year! On a real positive note, it is very difficult to play 5 games of intense basketball with only 7 players. We had a comfortable lead of about 12 points the entire game, thanks to Victor's heroics, who ended up scoring 1/2 of our teams points. We found our 12 point lead evaporating quickly in the last 3 minutes of the game, as our tanks were empty both mentally and physically. We were down by 1 point, our ball, we scored to be up 1 point with 20 seconds to go. They missed their shot with 8 seconds left, our ball underneath their basket. We turned the ball over on the inbound play. So, were up 1, their ball, under their basket. They get a shot off, Hayes rebounds the miss, gets fouled, makes a free throw. Game over, we win by 2!

A lesson to learn: in the last game as the boys were both mentally and physically fatigued, they fell back to old bad habits! And, like a small child began to whine and complain as things didn't go their way. The lesson to be learned from this is, like in life, as things get difficult and unfair, we need to stay mentally strong and focused. I was extremely proud of the boys overall, they played great and it is nice to win a Championship! Lastly, the big picture is that we improve individually and as a team regardless of the outcome.

WOW did I say basketball is a funny thing...... we played a very mediocre team again they hustled and we just came out complacent, we didn't shoot the lights out. They were a high school team and they game up 3-4 inches per man. Defensively we were lazy, kids not moving their feet, they got some confidence and momentum and hit some shots. They got to the basket and got lots of easy layups and points in the paint! How with our size advantage I have no idea! ( mother I did not scream and yell or cuss at the kids I stayed level headed) We were down by 6 at the half even at the end of 3 and then with some huge plays by vic and hayes we ended up tying it up at the end of regulation. Vic hit a couple of nice threes and a HUGE steal for a layup and Hayes made several clutch hoops. Tyler played most of the 2nd half and had some really nice put backs and rebounds as the. Zack was a trooper fought the whole game hit some FT's some nice put backs and solid d and played nearly the whole game. John had some great baskets that we needed badly during some dry spells!! ....we won by 1 in overtime hayes was fould on a 3 hit them all mark hit 2 ft's to ice it. .........Here is the deal. As an athlete ...a real athlete you need to come ready everyday regardless of the the competition. It has to do with respecting the opponent and the game itself. Also creates a consistent mental mindset in all situations. Most the kids at this level are playing for a reason. All are capable of making a big play getting hot sticking a few threes. After an amazing game yesterday we slipped a bit today in game one but.........we lived to play another game and advanced! We play at 1pm if we win we play at 5 in the championship lose we
play at 3;40 in the consolation game. 3-0 with 2 games to go. I am a bit worried with only 7 players I think we will run out of gas at some point.......stay tuned!!!

Basketball is kinda funny.......We are here in Yakima with 7 players. Got some guys gone some kids that couldn't make it. Nice place, and comfortable. We are rested and play our first game at 11:40 after a great breakfast thanks to Dotty Sonnemaker. We play a very mediocre team, just not much size, not great players we struggle all game but have a decent 10-14 point lead, bad decisions makes the game a bit closer and we win by 10 after them getting it down to 7 in the 4th q. .....Game #2 3:40 we play what is perhaps the best team in Idaho several good players good shooters good size and they have played a lot together.........we win by 30 ad have a 20 point lead at the half. Mark was Huge!!! I was able to keep him on the floor because he gave great defensive effort.best he has done and because of that he bangs down
5 3's hits some free throws, and has a very effecient game. It all happened because of his defense and moving his feet!!! Best game by far for him. Hayes was amazing shot great but not one TO or bad pass. Vic was very solid hit some great shots scored both on the drive and on the catch. Zach was huge and had some great defensive stops and some great put backs and keeping the ball alive. John is getting better and better each day. I am very proud of him. He has improved so much a great attitude and work ethic. Getting better every time out and he is seeing the big picture. I can't tell you how impressed I am with John!! Joel did great and s getting better each time out, Tyler was amazing had some great rebounds and was a dominate force on their big guys. We are 2-0 and play in the championships of the to seeded teams. Dinner at Sonnemakers at 7pm!!! hope all is well. Our bigs dominated their bigs which was the difference.........stay tuned peace

WE WILL PRACTICE THIS WEEK TUES WED THURS
Call me if you have questions. Tuesday we will be at SAC however sometimes we will be practicing elsewhere and will get you the information later. 503 875 8281 you can also text me too. Need to get $ this week.

I am keeping many more players than originally planned. You may see 16+ at practices and this is why.

#1. I have a group of very good players that did not make the team but they want to continue to improve by working out with us and by being a part of our program. My philosophy is one of being inclusive NOT exclusive. My goals are to help others get better.

#2. We may have a player or two that may sign with a college program and if they do they can't play in sanctioned AAU/NCAA tourneys. Also with injury illness and conflicts I need the #'s for practice. We will also be losing a player in July, and perhaps one after May and I have one with a conflict on one of our game days. SO if your son happens to be 11th or 12th on our list it may be very probable that in a month or so he may be #8 on the list.

#3. With the exception of 4-5 kids the others at their specific positions proved to be very equal to each other in most areas(especially with our wings and posts) and each have valuable qualities. These are players that deserve to be on a team and will definatley move up as plyers sign get hurt or have other conflicts and can't make a game.

My advice to all work hard every day by brining your lunch pail and hard hat and you will get better little by little.

Because of the number we have in our TOTAL PROGRAM I have entered a team from our program into a high school varsity league at the Beaverton YMCA HOOP. (Formerly the Beaverton Hoop) This team will play 2 games each Saturday 14 games over the next 7 weeks. The boys that play in this league may change a bit from week to week depending on their schedules and who we will be taking with us to other tourneys.

One group of boys will be playing in a tourney this weekend at West Salem HS 10 am. We will also have seperate group of boys playing at the HOOP and will have those times by Thursday. I will let the boys know who is playing where this week. I know we have 3-4 boys with conflicts this weekend and will miss all or part.

CALL ME WITH QUESTIONS BE FLEXIBLE! Trust me I have a method to my madness.

Team Oregon General info 4/2/10 Method to my madness

Please refer to this site for up to date information on practice schedules, game schedules travel plans etc. I will do my best to update it regularly. I would like to use this site to share information and updates rather than sending out multiple
e-mails or having to make multiple phone calls. Check this blog daily for updates. Please have patience with me I have a busy young family with 3 girls all busy with other sports, a wife I intend to stay married to, all going in many directions, am spread an inch deep and a mile wide. PLEASE CHECK THE BLOG BEFORE YOU CALL!!!

I will post the final roster by April 5th. Because I have a few unsigned seniors on the team(if they sign with a school they are not eligible to play in NCAA/AAU santioned tourney's)and because I have several kids that deserve to be on the team I will most likely carry 12 or 13 on the roster with 2 or 3 being alternates. I would prefer to carry 9 however carrying 12-13 kids is the right thing to do this year. I know one will be heading back to Germany before the summer is over and one that is not available for Sunday games. There also tends to be illness, family activites, school activities, prom, injuries, seniors that sign, etc that will prevent players from making it to all the tourneys. I feel there is great value this year in keeping 12-13 on the roster. It makes sense and feels right to me even though I have never carried more than 10 on any team I have coached in the past.

Playing time
Playing time will be dictated by me alone and I will be playing our best players that give us the best chance of winning and advancing in each tourney we enter.

Practices
It is required that the players come to all practices. I need to know up front if they are sick or can't other wise come to practice. My cell is 503 875 8281 texting works great and I have access to e mail on my phone as well coachgarrity@yahoo.com. We will try to practice 3 days per week and less once the HS basketball summer season starts. Most practices will be held at Sunset Athletic Club in Beaverton unless otherwise noted. Weekly practices will be held closer to 8pm as that is when the gym is more available. Saturday practices will be held in the mornings or late afternoon or early evening for the same reasons. We will not practice Sundays. Please let me know ASAP in detail if conflicts in schedules and other previous scheduled activites and dates where your son is not available. Our emphasis in practice will be individual skill development which includes shooting, court awareness, playing to your strengths, improving on weaknesses and the mental part of the game. I can tell right away from what I have seen so far with the exception of 4 or 5 players we will need to be much more tough mentally by trying to impose our will on our opponents. Some will need to play with much more emotion and passion and must push themselves much harder. I expect each player to come ready every day to get better and to compete.

cost
AAU is expensive. Tourney fees run from $350-$600 per event, hotels and travel is also expensive. I need to pay for gym time, uniforms, etc. If you are in a position to help a little extra or have a company that may be a willing sponsor us let me know. We have a few very deserving players that will struggle to come up with the full amount. Frequent flyer miles can be useful to reduce costs or if any of you have hotel vouchers that we can use please let me know. Because I am paying for costs up front I would ask that you pay all the AAU fees up front as well. Please make checks payable to "Hoop Camp" which is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization that I direct and run all my basketball related finances through. If paying up front is a problem or you need to make special arrangements let me know by contacting me immediately. Unlike many AAU caoches, I do not make money on the team and I pay all of my own expenses. What you pay goes directly to the teams expenses. I will be running some camps this year and the boys can earn money by working the camps.
travel
I will update our travel plans as I get it. The boys are responsible for the cost of thier own meals while on the road. We will need help with drivers for those of you that can travel with us. Parents, friends and family are always welcome and your son is welcome to stay with family as well if that is preferred. I will talk to the boys about our rules on the road.

April 10-11 tourney in salem or Eugene?? may be too late to enter.

April 16-18 Friends of Hoop Tourney in Seattle, we have not made hotel plans can someone take the ball and run with it for me. I like staying in a house if possible or if anyone has family there with a big enough place for some or all???? if not we will need to find a hotel.
